Meet the Mobihose Team – Steve Tomkins

News, People

Steve Tomkins is Mobihose’s Head of Business Development.

We wanted to introduce Steve to you all, so you know what he does and how he can help you.

Q: Hi Steve, let’s start with where you’re from and what you were doing before Mobihose?
I’m originally from Desborough in Northamptonshire, though I spent a good part of my early life in Harwich, Essex, where I went to school.

My career started in the shipping industry, managing the logistics of new vehicles for some well-known brands. After that, I moved into the telecommunications sector in a more technical role, working with several blue-chip companies. Eventually, I was introduced to the hydraulics industry, and it felt like the right fit for a long-term career.

Q: What’s your role at Mobihose and what does a typical day look like?
My core focus is helping the business grow. This covers everything from developing a growth plan, to calling and visiting customers and finding innovative ways to reduce downtime and keep their businesses moving. I also work closely with colleagues across the company to ensure we’re serving our customers in the way they need.

Q: What made you want to join the Mobihose team?
It was the values, really. Mobihose is a family-run business that genuinely cares about delivering excellent service. There’s a shared ambition to grow the business significantly, but without losing sight of what makes it special – its people, its service quality, and its commitment to doing things properly.

Q: Do you have much hands-on experience in hydraulics and machinery?
Yes, plenty! I’ve spent many years on the front line of on-site service and still enjoy getting involved. I’ve also trained new engineers and helped them understand best practices and procedures.

Q: How do you see your role contributing to customer success?
My focus is on making sure Mobihose continues to offer the best service to our customers. We’re here to keep their businesses moving. It’s therefore so important to ensure that I work with the whole team to constantly innovate and respond to customers’ needs. By being on the road and meeting people I will be able to share feed directly into the operation to help us help our customers more and more.

Q: What are you most excited about working on?
I’m already loving being out on the road and meeting customers. I get to see their operations, how they need support with their plant and machinery and I have the chance to understand the challenges they’re facing. We’re also exploring upgrades to our customer portal helping us stay close to our customers and making their lives easier every day.

Q: And finally, what keeps you busy outside of work?
Family life is a big part of who I am. I’ve been married to my wife Sam for nearly 20 years, and we have two daughters – Tiff, who’s 17, and Arianna, who’s 9. We’ve also got Rogue, our Belgian Malinois, who keeps us active and entertained! Outside of that, I’ve always had a passion for Formula One and motorsport in general.

Q: And finally finally…! How do customers get in touch with you?
Great question! Either call us on our 24/7 line – 0800 999 24 07 or email me on steve@hydraulicsroom.online
